She was labeled the queen of disco ( she hated the label ) by the dimwitted press, but her first hit " Love to Love you Baby " was nothing but a slow funk grind of the era.
I remember as a teenager being mesmerized by the track while high with the headphones on,picking apart the arrangement, floating on a bean bag.Other hits: Bad Girls and She Works hard for the money, were aimed at the disco generation, but not me.I was all funk and hard rock with some fusion thrown in on the side.
By the time she released " Dinner with Gershwin " ,very much in the Prince Love sexy vein, in the late 80's, the times had changed and she was no longer in vogue.
But it was ultimately my fave Donna Summer song. Bottom line, she sold tons of records and made her mark.
Long Live !
